I have been given the task of helping our HR Director plan a recognition dinner for long term employees. We would like to give some type of gifts in five year increments with each year being more significant. Our agency was estalished in 1970 so we have a number of people to recognize beginning with 5 years up to 35 years of service. We are a government agency so don't have a big dollar amount for this purpose. Does anyone already have something like this in place that you could share with me? Or does anyone know of any gift companies that aren't real pricey where I could request a catalog for ideas?

Certificates can be purchased from different sources... check with trophy shops... Louisville Slugger makes bats with engraving to recognize just about anything... we had a noncommissioned officer who was diagnosed with breast cancer... we had a pink bat with her name and breast cancer crasher engraved on the bat... it was a morale booster for her and helped her to be more determined to fight the battle she was presented with... there are a host of things you can do... you're only limited by your imagination !

I've used www.ThingsRemembered.com They also have stores located in some of the shopping malls. They personalize the gifts for you. If you go to the store, you can select from their stock and wait for the engraving to be done. It doesn't take long if you just walk around the mall and return later, it will be ready for you.
I like the other idea submitted of gift cards. My last employer also gave out gift cards but they allowed the employee to select which store they would prefer to shop at. The only problem with that is that you need to have a selection on hand. Or just give out a paper certificate, followed by the giftcard at a later date.

My organization has an annual employee dinner and anniversaries are recognized at this event each year. Employees celebrating 5 years receive a personal note from the President. Employees celebrating 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 years, etc. receive a personal note plus a check equal to $25 times the number of years. (For example an employee celebrating 15 years of service would receive $375.) We are a not-for-profit organization, but administration has made this committment to recognize our employees. The employees appreciate this recognition and can use the money as they see fit versus getting a plaque or other object they don't really need.

We have always had a great employee recognition program. We have used both The O.C. Tanner Company and The Tharpe Robbins Company for our awards. We use service awards pins at the 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 year levels and "Bravo" boxes for 30 years and above. The "Bravo" boxes contain a brochure where the employee can select their gift. We also use a "Bravo" box for retirees. We conduct our service award programs one evening at an off-site location. We use catered services for heavy hors d 'ouvres and the honorees mix and mingle before the presentations begin. We also do fun things such as preparing a little speech about what happened in the world and the health system the year that the employees were hired for each 5-year increment being honored. A Vice President of the company is assigned one of the groups to speak about and give the award. The President usually honors the retirees. There are many fun things that you can do with the "what was happening the year you were hired". We play a segment of a song that was a Oscar song of the year, Grammy song of the year, or Billboard song of the year and get the group to guess. Many of the groups just automatically sing along with the song. It is lots of fun. Hope this helps.

I work for a City Government. Last year at our employee Holiday party, employees who had served years of service below were given a VISA GIFT Card to use at the shopping center in our City where we work:
30 Years = $150
25 Years = $125
20 Years = $100
15 Years = $75
10 Years = $50
5 Years = $25
People who fell in-between (sorry).
All employees are invited to eat a free lunch, that is served by the Department Heads.
Every year the dollar amounts have been alittle different, depending on the budget available and the City Administrator in charge.

I use www.printingconceptspromo.com for all my promotional needs - and have for years. They have also supplied a 'gift program' option to us in the past when we did the same sort of service award program whereas a catalog was provided to the employee with items to select from. This worked out well because they were actually getting a gift of their choosing that they wanted instead of a paperweight or something. In fact I got a Black and Decker chopper that I still use! I contact David Rie exclusively.

We use C.A. Short for our longevity awards. We are a municipal government. Another idea would be if you have a local engraving/trophy shop and talk to them about items they could engrave.
