"MINUTE TAKING MADE EASY" workshop, brought to you by THE OFFICE PROFESSIONAL newsletter in conjunction with The Association of Executive and Administrative Professionals.
******************************************************************
Does the thought of taking minutes cause your heart to sink? Do you ever read minutes for a meeting that you attended and find that the recorder didn’t record what actually happened? Or do you have people in your office who want the minutes to record what they meant to say, not what they actually said? Minute taking is one of those skills few people have learned to do properly. Here is your chance to learn how to shine!
You are among the majority if you don’t feel confident. Few people actually know what taking minutes entails. Now you can take away the fear and learn the skills immediately.
The Association of Executive and Administrative Professionals members save 10% off the registration fee. Regularly priced at $329, you'll pay just $296!
To register online, visit www.theofficeprofessional.com/workshops/aeapd08. Your discounted price will be automatically applied.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
What Makes Great Minutes
You know that minutes are historical documents, but do you know what your responsibilities as minute taker entail? Many people never learn how to take good minutes, and simply copy what was done before—even if it was done badly. Don’t allow a bad example to sabotage your career. In group discussion, with activities, we will discuss:
- What minutes should contain—and what they shouldn’t
- Your role as a minute taker, including legal responsibilities
- The importance of accurate minutes
- How to avoid writing “Bob said, Mary said” over and over
- How to get rid of extraneous details and conversation to record only what really will matter after the meeting
How to Set Yourself Up for Success
Ever had to take minutes with no warning? What should you do? Or have you been appointed minute taker because no one else will do it? We’ll discuss how to be as prepared as possible to prevent complications, including:
- Questions to ask
- Before-the-meeting checklist (a valuable tool you can use over and over!)
Listening Skills
Listening is an art! How do you focus on what is important with everyone speaking at the same time? How do you know what is important and what isn’t? Together, we’ll complete a listening skills inventory so you can evaluate your own skills, identify your weak spots—and avoid the pitfalls in your next meeting! Listen and you will learn all about:
- What active listening is, and how to practice it
- Why we don’t listen, and miss important points
- How to use listening responses
