Required Labor Law Posters

Has anyone else attempted to order Labor Law posting notices lately? We received an offering for a poster that would include all that we were legally required to have here in Illinois (for about $70) - and then a salesman calls back regarding the order we just placed and states that what we really HAVE to have will cost $234!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PROMPT RESPONSES - ALL WERE VERY USEFUL TO ME. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE LATENESS OF MY THANKS...HOLIDAYS, ILLNESS, MEETINGS, VACATION DAYS...SORRY EXCUSES I KNOW - BUT THANK YOU! Dawn/Chicago on 1/13/2012 9:27:22 AM
We use Progressive Businesss Compliance. Our initial Federal/State posters were about $100, then we subscribed to automatic renewals for $39/year and receive all updates from that point forward at no additional charge to us. Anonymous on 12/9/2011 12:37:51 PM
You should contact your HR department since they should be providing you with these posters. They probably have a vendor/supplier for these posters already at corporate discount. Anonymous on 12/7/2011 2:41:30 PM
Don't do it. You can obtain all necessary posters through government or state labor sites. These people are just trying to get you to spend money, using scare tactics and hoping to reach someone that doesn't know any better. Anonymous on 12/5/2011 12:58:21 PM
Sounds like BS; I'd be leery of a salesman, especially trying to sell something you are vague about needing. Have you called the state or federal department of labor and asked if it would send you the posters? If they're required by law, it seems to me they should provide them, or at a minimum tell you exactly what you need and where to find them Anonymous on 12/5/2011 12:43:00 PM
I've never had to order them for my department (someone else did it), however I recently got sent an email that there was an updated one for under 18. So I looked it up print off a verison to compare to what we had and there was no changes other then an "updated date" on it. So my boss didn't have me order any. I believe the last person that ordered them found free verisons of them too. Good luck! Annoymous on 12/5/2011 12:39:25 PM
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question: Do I have to pay for posters? Answer: To obtain posters for free, you may contact the U.S. Department of Labor at 1-866-4-USA-DOL (1-866-487-2365) or download and print them yourself from http://www.dol.gov/compliance/topics/posters.htm. This was taken directly from the DOL website - they are FREE Anonymous on 12/5/2011 11:32:09 AM
There are lots of companies out there that try to get you to purchase posters from them and they try to "threaten you" if you don't buy from them. Shop around and do not let them coerce you into buying something you don't need. Our State Chamber of Commerce provides the required posters to us for FREE! So, just beware and don't buy something you don't really need. Robin Aylor on 12/5/2011 11:17:50 AM
I use Poster Compliance Center (www.postercompliance.com). For "early-bird" renewal, we pay $69/yr, which covers state and federal posters, a compliance certificate to post, and all changes and update posters sent to us free during the covered year. Never had a problem with them, sales people never bother me, and I get the renewal notice in the mail in plenty of time. Have used them for 5 years now. Patrick McKenna on 12/5/2011 11:05:20 AM
For the past five years, I have ordered all of our labor law posters through laborlawcenter.com. The poster will contain all updated information required for both your state and all applicable information required by federal on one poster. The cost is usually under 35.00 per poster ordered. I ordered our State/Federal labor law posters from the local AAIM Employer's Association (Peoria, IL). The cost for members was $29.95 plus tax, plus $5.50 Shipping/Handling for each poster. (Non members price is $38.95 plus tax and shipping.) You can order posters in English and Spanish and for any state using their order form. Hope this helps. Marisa Nutt on 11/30/2011 11:09:41 AM
I would check with your state's Dept. of Labor to determine what is required. Sounds like that salesman was just looking for a fat commission to me! Karen Rust on 11/30/2011 11:05:25 AM
