Try using Smart Draw. The charts are easily manipulated compared to Visio.

I actually use Microsoft Word to create org charts because it offers flexibility that most other programs do not. The use of text boxes and the drawing tool bar of lines and arrows allow for most any configuration of an org chart as well as most any size and complexity. Microsoft Excel can also be used for this purpose.

Microsoft Visio is a good program that I've used for board meetings etc. in the past. Adobe Illustrator is also a good program but may not be as user friendly as Visio.

I use Visio 2007 and love it! When I need an org chart in a PowerPoint presentation, I "select all" in Visio, copy then paste into PowerPoint. It is imported as a picture then you can crop the image if necessary.

I just completed a complex and very large organizational chart for our company using 2007 Visio. I didn't have much experience using the software but went online and watched the tutorial. Obviously the more you use the software, the easier it gets. Good luck.

I would also suggest Microsoft Visio 2007. I've included a URL from Microsoft that should point you in the right direction for some samples, etc. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio-help/create-a-visio-organization-chart-HA010105764.aspx

I worked for a very large International IT support center and one of my responsiblities was creating and maintaining the entire company's organizational chart. The best software program that I found user friendly...once you take the basic online training is Visio. The formatting was easy, and the look was crisp and professional. I had to fit a total of 15,000 employees in five slides. I agree with you PowerPoint is not an efficient source for creating large complex organizational charts.
