Social Networking Resources

Hello, I want to use social networking such as LinkenIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc., as a resource to find employment. I am in need of any resources, books, etc., that can assist me with how to use social networking for the novice. Thanks to all!

Hi Irene! Social networking is very effective. You should also if possible do as much face to face networking in your area. Go to job fairs, dressed professional and take time to chat with people even if they don't have a job for you. Be sure to introduce yourself by name. Get business cards from the people you speak with and give them yours if you have it. Also, working as a volunteer also exposes you to poeple from all walks of life and can be a great way to network. You never know, you could wind up working next to a CEO looking for a new Admin. Good luck! Mary Baechle on 3/10/2010 12:58:49 PM
Hi Irene - I think using social networking to find employment is a fantastic idea! Recruiters are using it all the time to find candidates. I would suggest that you focus mainly on LinkedIn - it is seen as the the place for professionals. Here are some fun stats I picked up in a webinar: average age: 41, Average Annual Income: $109,000, 64% are male and 80% are female, and there are 55,000 members with an additional 5,000 being added each month! Check out a book called "LinkedIn for Dummies" and another one called "I'm on LinkedIn, Now What?" Best of luck to you in your search!! Ann Yaggie on 3/10/2010 9:47:28 AM
Hi Irene, Not at all; it is very user friendly. Just go to their website and it has all the information you need. Just remember that social networking is just that "SOCIAL". Everyone has access to the information, even a future employer. Choose your words carefully. Good Luck. TinkS on 3/9/2010 1:28:42 PM
