We'd like to have our new CEO and Directors' CV's rewritten for consistency and my boss is anticipating a writer interviewing him to craft it. I've seen the "professional resume writing" sites on the web but when I looked up reviews on one that looked good I also came across a whole page of "beware this scam" messages. Does anyone have any suggestions? These will be used on our website, for speaking engagement bios, etc. Thanks!

Resume is supposed to be written by the owner. You may type is for your boss but he/she needs to write it by himself/herself....

There are actually some very good resume and curriculum vitae templates on Microsoft Word. Search these templates to see if there is a format that your boss would like to use in your company and then collect the information to put in the template. I think you could spend an inordinate amount of money hiring a consultant or specialist who may actually just have a collection of templates in which to place the information.

My opinion is the CEO should write his or her own CV. Our job is to help, not carry. And BTW, why is (s)he suddenly interested in updating the CV? Just sayin'.
About the website...if it says stay away, then maybe you should stay away? The world is full of professional writers trying to make a dime. Find another resume specialist.

I suggest you engage your Marketing & Communications staff (this may be marketing, advertising or public relation). Communications professionals are typically exceptional writers (it's what they do!). They can tailor the CV and bio copy to appropriately complement the company's overall marketing strategy. Should you not have in-house staff that cover these duties, you should consult an outside agency. If you have no such outside vendor of record, I suggest looking locally where references are easily obtainable.

Does the new CEO of your organization have a standard in which they would like the CV's rewritten for the website etc.? I have examples for our CEO CV's as well as the manager/directors. They different slightly. It would be my pleasure to forward some example via email...Just let me know.

I would suggest engaging a Public Relations or Advertising firm to prepare the copy because, in effect, you will be advertising your company via the the CEO and Directors' CV information. They should have reputable, fully trained and talented personnel who can do everything for you, perhaps even designing what you will add to your website.
Good Luck!

Let me first admit that I'm conservative with money. Having been upfront about that, I would not pay anyone to write a CV. No one knows your boss better than himself. The two of you can sit together while he brainstorms or lists all of his accomplishments, etc. and you make a list of each one. Under each item, make notes as needed. If you are uncomfortable composing his CV, search the internet for CV's. When you find several that look polished, professional and impressive, print those. Pull them all together and use as samples to compose his. (Make sure your grammar and writing skills are sharp! If not, is there someone in your office who excels in these areas?) Once you have a draft, show it to him along with the samples that you used. Between the two of you, I think you can pull this off! If he's achieved many great things in his career, he can certainly achieve creating a CV with your help. After all, no one is going to "sell" him better than he can "sell himself". Maybe with the money he saves, he can give me a bonus for my suggestion....whoops....I meant give you a bonus for your research and creation. Good luck!
