Team Leader[ship]

We have a Team Leader in our office that it is extremely difficult to respect and work for. She's a nice person but when it comes to dealing with work issues she shows no proper leadership. She will not deal with staff complaints, she will not support the staff in favour of following any policies, she will not correctly discipline. In some cases it seems that she shows favouritism. She does not follow up when she should, we have to keep proding her and we still don't get an answer. What can we do?

Whoa -- what a problem. I've seen this kind of thing before and it ain't pretty! In one case that I know about first hand - people literally transferred out of that particular department - as a group - or quit and went somewhere else - and all of them gave the same reason for transferring/leaving -- which you would have thought would have resulted in either the dismissal of the problem person -- or better training in 'people skills' for her - the truth of the matter is, she got transferred to another department. Yeah, you really are between the rock and the hard place with this one - good luck! Office Person on 3/12/2012 8:08:21 AM
Hi Office Person, Yes it is a common complaint amongst staff. The problem is, you've heard the saying "plays the game"? She does that and it seems that her superiors like her. So we're caught between a rock and a hard place. Rose on 3/6/2012 12:06:15 PM
Sounds like you need to go to the next level up --her manager/supervisor. Is this something that everyone in your department is commenting on? Though you don't want to gang up on her, it might be wise to gather everyones complaints/concerns and present it in just one formal meeting. It is awful to have to deal with this - but calm and careful are the watchwords - don't want this to blow up in your face. Office Person on 3/6/2012 11:50:55 AM
