I would like to acheive the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) credential but have no clue where to get started. I recently switched to MS Office 2007 but do not have the Vista platform- will this make a difference? And do I have to have to be Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certified first? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Go to www.microsoft.com/learning
There you will scroll the chart until you find 2007 Microsoft Office System. Look for the link to information for the office worker. You want Microsoft Business Certifications for Office Workers. (MBC) The Microsoft Business Certifications consist of the MCAS and MOS. You will find information there to direct your quest for the certification

I received the MCAS certification in Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Word. It was worth it. Even though I've been using the programs, I learned more in preparing for the exams. I went through Certiport. I would say to definitely use the Microsoft Step by Step books. It's also helpful to use the Certiport practice test software, but that's an additional cost. Best wishes!

I recently received my MCAS in Word and Excel and am planning on Outlook and PowerPoint this year.
1. Certiport is the first step. A good place to start are the the self-tests. They will give you an idea of what you need to work on. And you'll need a Certiport account to actually take the tests.
2. I have the Step-by-Step books. Even after years of working with the programs, I did pick up tidbits here and there that were very helpful. Also, the self-test results will refer to specific chapters.
3. I don't think Vista matters. I don't think any of the machines I used were Vista.
4. You do not need to be MOS first. MOS was the certifications for Office 2003 and prior. MCAS is for Office 2007.
One thing you will want to do soon is look for a testing center since it is not given through Prometric. I also found that some of the places listed no longer did the tests.
Good luck!

Please take a look at www.certiport.com (I am using this service to prepare for my MCAS certifications for Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). I do not believe that the VISTA platform makes a difference, but you may want to check that out further. Also, you do not need to be MOS certified to complete MCAS certifications.
